Kristen Key is a singer/songwriter/musician who began singing at the young age of only three. Bouncing around the Midwest throughout her childhood, Kristen’s family eventually settled in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. It was there, at the age of seventeen that Kristen was given her first guitar and immediately began performing in churches and local cafes. At the time, Kristen wasn’t concerned with popularity or money; she just wanted to play music. In the fall of 2002 Kristen headed to Cincinnati to attend college and her ambitions to pursue music as a career became more and more evident. In January of 2004 Kristen began recording in the studio and recruiting members for her first band. The band was only together for a short time due to the fact that each member wanted to fulfill their own musical aspirations. Shortly after, Kristen headed out to Las Vegas to perform at the New York International Music Festival. It was there her amazing performance skills started to bring her recognition and praise, her talents as a songwriter and recording artist began opening doors. Soon after returning to Cincinnati Kristen caught the attention of songwriter/drummer/guitarist/prod Kevin Michael Finkelmeier who had worked with Grammy winning producers and national acts. The two began writing numerous songs together and eventually Kevin connected Kristen with his long time friend / producer, Matt “Emosia” Senatore (producer of hit records, “I Believe” and”Hey Leonardo” Blessid Union of Souls). They immediately cut “without you” which was the first song that Kristen and Kevin wrote together. The song was then placed in the film “Tattered Angel” starring Lynda Carter (Wonder Women), Roy Lee Jones (“Daredevil” and Bob Elkins (Coal Miner’s Daughter”). The film premiered to 445 cast crew and supporters at the AMC theatre at Newport on the Levee and is awaiting national distribution in Los Angeles. Kristen is in the midst of finishing her first full length record which is slated for release in the fall. Kristen and Kevin were also one of the three recipients of the The Rivertown Music Club recording grant which is giving out based on songwriting ability, in loving memory of Red MacCormack. Kristen has been playing locally with a full band for a little over a month now and will start playing regionally and nationally in late July. Kristen and Kevin currently have songs being pitched by Nashville music publishers Kye Fleming (3 time BMI country songwriter of the year; 2 time BMI pop songwriter of the year; 2 time NSAI songwriter of the year; 2 time Billboard song of the year; 10 BMI Millionaire awards; BMI Burton award for song of the year; CMA, ACM, DOVE, and GRAMMY nominations for various songs; and CMA Triple Play award) and Mark Cawley (numerous BMI, US and worldwide sales awards).
